AS Monaco Football Club, commonly known as AS Monaco or simply Monaco, is a Monegasque professional football club based in the Principality of Monaco. The club was founded in 1924 and plays in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football. The club's historical colors are red and white, and the club is nicknamed Les Rouges et Blancs. Monaco plays its home matches at the Stade Louis II in Fontvieille. The club is owned by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, and is managed by Leonardo Jardim. In December 2011, Rybolovlev took control of the club from former president Jean-Louis Campora. Under Rybolovlev, the club was promoted to Ligue 1 in 2013 and regained the UEFA Champions League in 2014-15. He won his first ever major trophy in 2016-17 when he beat Juventus on penalties to win the UEFA Champions League. Today, the club is one of the wealthiest in France and has a reputation for signing world-class players such as Thierry Henry, Radamel Falcao, James Rodriguez, Kylian Mbappé and Dimitar Berbatov.
