Basque is a language spoken in the Basque Country. The Basque country is divided between Spain and France. The order of colors is important: the green cross shows that the ancient laws, guaranteeing the freedom of the Basques, impose themselves on the people. Finally, the white cross, the Christian faith, surmounts the whole.
