A flying saucer lands in the middle of the night in the city of Los Angeles. Extraterrestrials are sent to Earth on a botanical exploration mission, come out of the craft, but one of the aliens ventures beyond the clearing where the shuttle is. Abandoned by her family, and hunted by the US military, this little creature named E.T. takes refuge in a residence.

He meets Elliot, a ten-year-old boy. The child builds a shelter in his closet. Brought together by a telepathic exchange, the two beings will become friends.
